Alfreda V
Delaware
Feb 5, 1924 — May 17, 2021
This is a story about a pretty black girl, born in 1924, a trying time in this world. Born to Zellee Stokes and a
chocolate man named Jake, Alfreda Victera Regans showed her beautiful little face. When Freda was about age two
not much higher, singing songs about Jesus, she rocked over into the fire. Her sister slapped her down to put the fire
out, she got an old fashioned "whoopin" for that but Freda always felt that was foul. She was left with only a tiny scar
because her sister saved her life. She always told that story because without that slap she could have been burned or
even died. She had 7 siblings whom she always remembered and loved them ALL so very much. She shared so many
stories of their life and upbringing which left us with a treasured touch. There was Thomas, Abron, Mary, Teola,
Leother, Rafe and Melzenia, the Regans roots, We knew them as "Ca'lous", "Abe", "Mama Took", "Aunt T" "Shant",
"Unkie" and "Scoot".
She got her education at the schools here in Yazoo at Yazoo City Training School, also known as #2. She worked
hard and graduated in 1944 and sang like a bird, every year and then some more. She was sent by her church to sing at
the NBC, where "Sister Baby" played the music for her & all the people could see; see all that talent and hear the
voice of a "Black Beauty" which she was named, by her brother Rafe who loved her oh so dearly. From that point
on came lots of fame; she was a songbird until the very end. Singing in choirs, plays, at churches and events, or even
just for family and friends.
She was a PROUD member of Beulah Land Church for 85 wonderful years. Baptized in '36 in the Yazoo River, she
accepted Christ with pride and no fears. She was President of the Choir, in Women's Ministry, JMA, BTU and LOTS
of other stuff, all in all anyone from Beulah Land will tell you that this woman was TOUGH! She said what she meant
and meant what she said and EVERYONE knows that is true, but you BETTER NOT say NOTHIN' Bout' Beulah
Land Church, or she will have some CHOICE WORDS for you!
A pillar of our community, Mrs. Alfreda, who can forget her beautiful face. As a crossing guard for the schools, on
Lamar, for 29 years she kept the students safe. Before that she worked as a filing clerk for Afro American Sons and
Daughters. While working there she was highly recognized for keeping the files in such great order. Now, before
that we can't forget that she was indeed "The Help"; a domestic worker for local families and they absolutely loved
her to death. She left her mark in Yazoo and beyond on oh so many people. Whether loving or fussing or teaching
or even cussing, we all know it was far reaching.
Now, lets move on to the "mushy" part, the stuff that we all like best. First comes love then comes marriage and of
course, we all know the rest. In 1947 a tall army man named Silas came and made her his wife. Together they had
five unique kiddos and went on to have an exciting life. First came Melzenia, a beautiful diva, fierce and feisty just
like her mom; and then along came Zellee, Just as calm as can be, sweet and quiet just like her grandma. The third of
the crew was headstrong Diane, outspoken and no doubt a scholar; then Jake the athlete showed his face then finally
chef Sonja the last little daughter. Joe Smith has been there for countless years he was definitely her son-in-love, He's
been a part of the family sticking right there with Zellee a real blessing from God up above. Who could forget "Lil
Alfreda", who we call "Bay" her niece and her namesake. She loved them ALL, and through it ALL until her LAST
breath she would take.
We can't leave out her Grandchildren, there were 5 to be precise, Don't mess with them either cause one thing's for
sure, they were ALL the light of her life. Raymonda was the first, she thinks she's the boss raised up in her house.
But that's how she was raised, Freda DID NOT PLAY so she's stuck with those traits without a doubt. Keisha came
next, a diva indeed, a daddy's girl, yes it's true. Then Zena popped in, sensitive, caring & serene, Freda's favorite, I
think but that's cool. Then Tee came along as the first grand boy analytical in all of his thoughts, and finally Lil' Jake
pretty suave I must say, the last Delaware of the boys. Big Terry (Trouble T) is her grandson in love which he showed
her for countless days. Freda was proud of them all whether near or far no matter what anyone says.
"Free Free" is the name that her great grands gave, a nick name she TRULY embraced, There's Tyson, her "baby
boy" her pride and joy and Tavion with his "Mr. Fix It" ways. Terry, Jr. was the first and Tanijeha before him were
the very first two to come, then Tristan and Zola decided to show up, they were the last of this bunch. The first great
great grand, Tahani "the Bunny" came right on in with a fight. Freda got a chance to love on them ALL before ending
her ultimate Plight.
Everyone above will remember her with love whenever her name is called. So many loved her dearly, both
friends and family we'd dare not ATTEMPT to name them all. So if you knew this AWESOME lady in any
capacity be proud that she touched your life. We can never forget that Queen, Mrs. Alfreda, she's with God now,
no more pain, no more suffering, no more strife.
