Obituary

Ella Mae Jones was born July 16, 1954 in Yazoo County, Mississippi to the
late James Andrew Rossell and Willie Murphy.
On Thursday, March 18, 2021, she made her heavenly transition.
Ella accepted Christ at an early age at New Paradise M.B. Church under the
leadership of Reverend Melvin Reed. She later joined the New Zion
Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Willie E. Smith
where she served faithfully until her health failed. Ella will always be
remembered for her God gifted talent of singing. Her melodious high
soprano voice was one that could seemingly reach the heavens. She would
often ask, "Was I in the rafters?". We would say "Yes Mama" LOL. She will
be remembered most for her "Bigger Than Life Personality" and her
"Infectious smile and Laughing Out Loud (LOL)".
She enjoyed serving in the church not only in the choir, but with the Sunday
School, the Mission, Bible Study, the Baptist Convention and serving on the
Kitchen Committee. Her other love outside of church was her love for her
family, neighbors, and friends. She loved spending time with family and
friends and traveling. She had many families and friends that she loved
dearly. She attended Yazoo City Public School and worked for Yazoo City
Public Schools and UMC as a cook. She loved her Class of 1972 and
Ebenezer Court 100.
Ella united in holy matrimony to the late William Jones, Jr. and to this union,
five children were born. Ella later married Michael "Bo" Allen. She was
preceded in death by her father, James Rossell, her husband William Jones
Jr., granddaughter Nkevia Jones and grandson Kameron Grant.
We will miss "Mama" and her memories will be forever cherished by her
mother, Willie L. Rossell of Yazoo City, MS; her uncle Johnny Murphy
(Bertha) of Gary, IN and her children Anita Ballard (Don) of Bentonia, MS;
Venessa Grant (Kerioon) of Arlington, TX; Kenyon Jones Sr (Shelia) of
Chester, VA; Theoshia Morgan (Brian) of Orlando, FL; and Patrick Jones of
Yazoo City. She was blessed with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
relatives, and friends. Her sisters/brothers-in-law were very near and dear
to her heart.
