Obituary

Gracie Ann Conway was born April 1, 1941 in Yazoo County to Oran Conway and Joseph Johnson. She was the 1st child of ten. Gracie accepted Christ at an early age at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Saul Grant. She attended Annadale School in the Dump Lake Satartia Area. Ans graduated from N.D. Taylor High School in 1960. After graduating in 1960 she moved to New Orleans and lived with her Aunt, Myrtle Johnson. There she met and married Sam McKay. She began her working career at Sacred Heart Academy and remained there for 17 years as a custodian. She developed many long and lasting relationships with Teachers and Faculty. After leaving Sacred Heart Academy she later became a Homemaker for four teachers and played a major and influential role in the rearing of (12) other children. She is loved dearly by them all. Phone calls, visits, connections on Facebook and emails from them remained until the date she went to her Heavily Home. She was called “Mother Grace”. Mother Grace loved to travel, gardening, feeding and watching birds, watching Jamaican movies, the News she stayed abreast of current news around the world, playing games on the computer and watching cooking shows. Mother Grace talked often to her friends and close relatives and was always ready to help and be there for them even in her motorized chair. She knew how to connect the dots and work it out. Mother Grace was very stern and to the point yet truthful and honest. Gracie leaves this legacy: Love hard, brothers and sisters stay forever close, help look out and talk to each other often. No matter the cost, stay connected. Enjoy life and take care of your affairs in life. (Handle your business). Be for real in whatever you do. She will be affectionately remembered and greatly missed by her daughter: Charlotte Priest (Yazoo), her sons: Sam (Demetria) McKay, Dr. Welton Frank (Michell) McKay, Her Sisters: Joyce (Jerome) Patterson, Lynn Reed, Betty Rogus (Chicago) and Daisy Johnson, Her Brothers: Louis (Lula) Frank (Georgia), Cleotha (Ollie), Johnny (Marina), L.C. (Annie), James & Clifton Woodard, Jimmy & Eugene Johnson, Aunt: Myrtle Johnson, (11) Grandchildren, (10) Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, friends, relatives and special sons & daughters that she influenced.
