Deacon JD "Old Coon" Lawson was born October 17, 1935, to the late James
Lawson and Lucy Mae Mack in Yazoo County. He departed his life on March 25,
2022 with his daughter, Janice standing by his side.
Deacon Lawson had only a 5th grade education. However, that didn't hinder
him. He learned how to read and later became a mechanic, welder, farmer and
businessman.
Deacon Lawson loved children and always wanted a large family. He never met
a stranger who didn't become part of his family.
Deacon Lawson accepted the Lord at a young age. He loved the Lord and enjoyed
serving in his church, New Calvary Baptist Church, for many years. He faithfully
served as a deacon. He will always be remembered for his favorite saying, "Do
what's right, and God will take care of you."
Deacon Lawson was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Willie Lawson, his
two wives, Charlean Blue Lawson and Beulah Fountain Lawson, two daughters,
Helen Lawson Benson and SFC Evelyn Fountain Thomas.

from Rochester, NY, Lucie (Joe ) Struggs, Alice Jo Lawson, Joanne Davis, all from
Milwaukee, WI, Sons: JD LAWSON Jr, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jason (Kimberly)
Lawson, Dallas, TX, Dennis (Helen) Fountain, Myrtle Beach, SC, Willie Fountain,
Benton, MS, Robert Fountain, Biloxi, MS, Fredrick Fountain, Jackson, MS and
Percy Simmons, Sylvester, GA, Sisters: Lucille (Robert) Brooks, Berdia (Johnny)
Yancey, Carrie (John) Booker, Sister-in-laws: Gloria Harris, Jackson, MS and Annie
Fountain, Yazoo City, MS, Brothers: James Lawson Jr and John Henry Lawson. He
also leaves cousins, Mabel Carr, Chicago, IL and Rosa Doby, Yazoo City, MS, his
special friends Mrs. Brazille Rogers and Mr. James Robinson, both from Yazoo City,
MS.
Deacon Lawson also leaves to cherish his memories a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
