Katie Ruth Dixon was born in Flora, MS on June 3, 1951 to Sara Mae Bratton and the late Sam Haggard. She attended Sumner Hill High School in Clinton, MS. After high school, she married Willie Earl "Blue" Johnson. Shortly after the birth of their first child, she moved to Yonkers, NY where their remaining two children were born. While in New York, in 1977, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She later moved back to Mississippi where she worked as a cook at Magnolia Nursing Home and then as a dietician at McDade's Market. After the death of her first husband, she married Charlie Dixon in 2002 and moved to Yazoo City, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Donnie Ray Showers of Seattle, WA, Patrick (Maxine) Showers of Flora, MS; Daughter in law, Hope (Martin) Thompson of Xenia, OH; and Daughter, Tonya Dixon of Jackson, MS.
Katie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Charlie Dixon; five children: Martin F. Thompson of Arlington, TX, Patrick Johnson of Yazoo City, MS, Angie (Jerome) Robinson of Jackson, MS, Eugene (Luquisha) Dixon of Jackson, MS, Harvey Dixon of Jackson, MS; seven grandchildren: Martin F. Thompson, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, Sara Thompson of Houston, TX, Cynteria Dixon, Harvey Dixon, Jr, Keyonte Charleston, Kingston Dixon, Crystal Beard; and two great grandchildren.
Her memory will also be cherished by her mother, Sara Bratton of Flora, MS; six sisters: Carolyn Ann Stallworth of College Park, GA, Georgia Harris of Flora, MS, Sarah Green of Athens, AL, Faye (Hosea) Cotten of Madison, MS, Linda Showers of Flora, MS, April (J.C.) Hill of Athens, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and spiritual brothers and sisters.
Katie was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She loved to bring smiles to her friends and family through her cooking just as much as she loved to cook. And that love was felt by all because of it. She will be greatly missed.
