Obituary

Born on July 27, 1953, in Pace, Mississippi, Kennith was the beloved son of the late Felix McKnight Sr. and Lemia Mae McGhee. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Ruben and Icy McGhee, alongside his devoted aunt, Rosie Lee Johnson. Kennith was the youngest of six siblings, all of whom preceded him in death: McArthus Thomas, Walter Thomas, Lori Dean Jackson, Felix McKnight Jr., and Sam Thomas.

Kennith accepted Christ at an early age and carried his faith with him throughout his life. At an early age, Kennith relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where he built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. Though Chicago became home, Mississippi always remained close to his heart. Every year, he faithfully returned to celebrate his Aunt Rosie's birthday, cherishing the time spent reconnecting with family and lifelong friends.

Known affectionately as "Big Mac," he was admired for his generous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering willingness to help others. His home was always open, and so was his heart. Kennith dedicated many years of service to caring for and protecting others. He worked in security at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital and Columbus Manor Rehabilitation Center before pursuing his lifelong dream of law enforcement. While employed at Columbus Manor, he attended the Police Academy and proudly became a Deputy Sheriff with the Cook County Sheriff's Department. He served honorably and faithfully until his retirement in 2012.

Following retirement, Kennith returned to Mississippi, where he embraced the peace and simplicity of life he loved most. He found joy in fishing, cooking, storytelling, and gathering with family and friends. His presence brought warmth, laughter, wisdom, and comfort to everyone around him.

Kennith peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He leaves to cherish in his loving memory his children: Dr. Myskeshia L. Mitchell, Kenneth Hughes, Terrence Richardson, Kendrick L. McKnight, Keydra L. McKnight, and Kandanise Ramseur. Kennith also leaves behind a cherished legacy as a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend whose love and impact will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
