Louis
Haynes
Feb 4, 2022 — Feb 4, 2022
Louis Henry Haynes; born Sunday October 20, 1940, in Burdette,
Arkansas to the late William H. and Malinda Ward Haynes. Louis was
the only son and eldest of seven children born to this union.
The Haynes family moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1943. While
growing up in Cape Girardeau, Louis attended John S. Cobb School
before integration. Louis accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age
and was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
During his high school years, he transferred to Cape Girardeau Central
High. As a young man he worked as a bus boy at the Idan-Ha Hotel and
then in the stock room at Garber's Men's Store.
Louis graduated with the class of 1960. He entered the military January
12, 1962. He served two years in the United States Army, stationed in
Germany during peace time. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge,
December 23, 1964, Louis returned to St. Louis, Missouri.
Louis was a "DJ" and smooth skater and dancer. He and Gladys could
'bop' the night away on the dance floor. Louis' work history was
extensive and diverse. He would share stories about his bus routes as a
driver for Bi-State and his favorite job as a cross-country driver for the
Greyhound Bus Company. Louis left Greyhound to become a Fire
Fighter for the City of St. Louis.
On April 17, 1971, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Claborn and
together they raised three beautiful daughters. The family moved to
Anchorage, Alaska in 1975. Louis was an outstanding provider for his
family. While living in Anchorage, he drove the public-school bus and
served as a Fire Fighter. He retired from the Anchorage Fire
Department in 1985.
From Alaska, Louis returned to Cape Girardeau to care for his parents.
He enjoyed traveling, including providing a trip to Alaska for his parents
and a tour of the eastern coastline. As a grandfather, he was an
awesome babysitter having had to endure the purple dinosaur,
"Barney" with his grandson.
Eventually he returned to St. Louis, Missouri, where he became a
member and served with the Deacon's Ministry at Friendly Temple
Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend
Michael Jones.
In 2017, Louis moved to Yazoo City, Mississippi and joined Antioch
Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter
Williams, where he met Cynthia Walker. They were married October
22, 2021.
Due to health complications, but yet according to the Will of God, Louis
was called to his Heavenly reward on Friday, February 4, 2022.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Malinda
Haynes, two sisters Louise Haynes and LuWanda Bryant, one
granddaughter Janae Roberts and two brothers-in-law Kenneth Sides
and Felton Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Cynthia; three daughters,
