Obituary

Mary Ann Anderson's story begins on February 19, 1949. She
was born the first child of the late James and Johnnie Bell
Anderson, and has been an earthly blessing ever since her first breath of
life. She was the oldest of three children. Mary Ann grew up going to
school in the Yazoo City School District. She attended N.D. Taylor High
School from first through twelfth grades. She was active in the Taylor High
band where she played the clarinet. She loved people and life. It was a joy
to her living in her community with her mom, dad, and her siblings. She
had a love for education, this being inherited from her mother who was a
wonderful teacher and mentor to many children in Yazoo County and the
surrounding areas. After finishing high school in 1967, Mary Ann earned a
B.S. degree in elementary education from Jackson State University and
continued to have a lifelong love for the Jackson State Tigers. While at JSU
she also became a member of the Delta Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority in Spring of 1969.
On August 3, 1973, she married Mr. Fletcher Brewer. God gave them
two wonderful children, Fletresha and LaKeith. As a young mother,
God gave Mary Ann the greatest experience that she will ever have in her
life when she was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost
according to Acts 2:38 at Monument of Faith in Chicago, IL under the
leadership of Pastor Richard D. Henton. This experience would change
her life forever. Mary Ann would later move her family to Houston, TX
where God blessed her to be under the leadership of Bishop Taylor at New
Day Church. As years passed, she and her family relocated to Los Angeles,
CA. While there, she was under the ministry of Pastor Robert McMurray
at Greater Bethany Church. God brought her and her family full circle and
sent her back home to Yazoo City, MS. She united with the Greater
Bethlehem Temple Church family under the late Bishop Phillip Coleman,
Sr. and now Bishop Robert N. Fortson, Sr. serves as Pastor. She worked
diligently in the church with whatever her hand found to do. She was
faithful in Sunday School, Missions, and the Educational Department of
the church. Mary Ann was a wonderful teacher and educator inspiring
children as she taught in Illinois, Texas, California, and Mississippi. She
served the church and her community with love and grace. She never met
a stranger and made friends everywhere she went.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. James Anderson; her
mother, Mrs. Johnnie Bell Anderson; and her brother, Mr. William
Anderson. She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Fletresha
(Marlon) Whisenton of Ridgeland, MS; one son, LaKeith Brewer of
Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Xavier Whisenton, MaKalah
Whisenton, DeAndrea Whisenton, and Akymi (Miracle) Allen; one sister,
