M.C.
Miller
Jun 17, 1950 — Dec 24, 2021
In 1950, June 17th, the hottest day of that month, MC Miller was born to sharecroppers Charlie Miller and Sarah Miller. He was reared with
siblings on Wolf Lake in Yazoo County. He received Christ at an early age at New Tabernacle M.B. Church. During MC's teenage
years, he would travel to Chicago to stay with his older siblings and work during his visits.
In 1968, he graduated from N.D. Taylor High School. Afterward, he attended Mary Holmes Community College. He then went on to Alcorn University to further his undergraduate studies. Shortly after, his education was put on hold due to being drafted by the United States Army in 1971. He served in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge from the United States Army. His ambition to complete his degree drove him to return to Alcorn University, where he obtained a business degree in 1974. MC was wise beyond his education but had a belief in higher education. In 2010, he received his Doctor of Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary.
Life is a journey; MC worked and lived in Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, and Atlanta during his mission to pursue a better life. MC
stated during this time he lost twenty years trying to find his purpose in life. He returned to Mississippi for a fresh start.
After having a desire to run his own business, MC developed and nurtured a skill in painting. He started and incorporated a successful business from this skill, which led to Painting Plus LLC. He has been an entrepreneur for 40 plus years.
In 1990, his new life began. He married Deborah Reid. MC always credited this union as signaling a significant turning point in his life. He joined her home church, Bertha Chapel M.B. Church. This membership motivated him and created a deeper love and stronger attachment to Christian
Education. He served as field representative with the Original Jackson Missionary Baptist District Association. His passion for God's Word sent him on a quest to become a Certified Instructor and appointment as Dean of Christian Education with the National Baptist Convention, USA. He
initiated, trained, taught, and led Christian Leadership Schools throughout Mississippi.
In 1994, MC answered the call and became an ordained minister under the leadership of the late Rev. Silas Stapleton.
In 1998, he became the Pastor of Bethel M.B. Church in Yazoo City, MS. MC's innovative ideas, limitless vision, perseverance, grit, and love for God allowed him to lead this flock for 23 years. At Bethel, he developed a growing ministry. He was driven by a passionate commitment to see people succeed in every aspect of their lives. His passion, along with his enthusiasm, genuine love for people, and highly effective teaching fueled his
ministry. God gave him the vision to build a new church and change the dynamic of the ministry from a "once a month ministry" to a "full-time ministry." Pastor Miller traveled near and far to grow and develop as a Leader in Christ. MC had an unwavering connection with people.
His desire to bring more souls to Christ prompted him to become a founding member and pioneering pastor of Pure Life Baptist Church (Jackson, MS). He was the overseer for six years before releasing this to another ministry. He was wholeheartedly committed to teaching a deep understanding of the Bible. Reverend Miller was currently serving as the Dean of Christian Education of the Yazoo County Baptist Brotherhood Association. Rev. Miller led by example. He was a stickler for training, teaching, and being timely. His goal was to make the Word of God plain enough for a child to understand by using props, visuals, and imagery.
MC was a hard worker, but most importantly, he was a family man. He took great pride in all his relationships, but most importantly with his
children and grandchildren. He made all of them feel as like anything was possible if they put God first, as he pushed them to excel in academics.
Transparency made it easier for people to trust, connect, and relate to him regardless of social, educational, or economic status, MC treated everyone the same.
MC was the happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends and cheering on his favorite team, Alcorn State University Braves. Over the
years, he spearheaded several enjoyable Miller Family Reunions, no matter the location. It was important for him to travel to attend and
support family events no matter the distance. As a true Alcornite, tailgating was a normal way of life. Frying turkeys or fish was his specialty.
Every fall, he found great pleasure in linking up with classmates, friends, and his Alcornite family. He had a grand love for traveling, watching western movies, eating, and preparing excellent cuisine. He looked forward to " Y a z o o D a y " a n d fellowshipping with the Class of
1968. Best known for his amazing fried catfish, he created
a sought-after signature taste, Fish Fry Seasoning named Southern Catch. He won numerous food awards and accolades.
MC will always be remembered by his jovial personality, his smile and of course, laughable spirit. His teasing jokes, unfailing work ethic, generous spirit/giver. People will often say MC did not meet a stranger. Many knew him as "Beanhead", "High Pocket" or "Big Money Grip". MC was
a devout Christian and led many to Christ! No matter the situation, MC was on call and willing to go any time to help
anyone in need. Everyone thought highly of MC because he thought highly of them.MC was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Sarah Miller; eight siblings, Henry Miller, George Miller, Jonas Jones, Bobby Miller, Odis Miller, Irene Miller, Ann Carpenter, and Gladys Miller; two great-grandsons, Karieon Jackson and Jaylen Winters.
