Obituary

Melvin Johnson was born to the late Arthur and Maggie B. Johnson on Mach 18, 1953 in Yazoo
County. He departed his life on March 2, 2020. He accepted Christ as his personal savior, and
joined True Light M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Murphy. He was united in marriage
to the late Shirley Maple who proceeded him in death. Also one brother, Horace Johnson; along
with tow sisters Cora Bivens, and Elsie Gardner.

He attended N.D. Taylor School in Yazoo City, MS. He worked for Yazoo PSC, and Gordon
Construction.

He leaves to rejoice in his memory two sons Timothy Johnson (April) of Jackson, MS and
Jordan Johnson of Yazoo City, two daughters Merlin and Miranda Johnson both of Yazoo City.
Two grandsons who he helped reared Adarian Johnson and Takenu Johnson, thirteen
grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a very special person Sue Harris of Chicago,
Illinois. Four sister's Sadie Gould of Yazoo City, MS, Minnie Turange (Leonard) of Chicago, Il,
Carlean Love (Willie) of Jackson, MS, and Bessie Petrolia (Gregory) of Hammond, LA. Four
brothers Arthur Johnson (Emma) of Yazoo City, MS. Eugene Johnson (Lovace) of Yazoo City,
MS, Carl Johnson (Willie) of Yazoo City, MS, and James Johnson (Lerita) of Fayeteville,
Arkansas and one sister and law Fannie Johnson of Yazoo City, MS, one aunt Robbie Ballard of
Yazoo City, MS and a host of cousins nieces, nephews, and friends.
Melvin loved everyone; he had a great sense of humor that will never be forgotten. He had a kind
heart, never rejected anyone, and was always a giver. He would often fry fish and green tomatoes
and invite everyone over he was The FISH KING.
