Mother Dorothy
Genous Price
Mar 18, 1946 — May 20, 2021
Dorothy (Sidney) Genous Price was born March 18, 1946, in Benton Mississippi to the late Deacon Lenwood
and Sister Fannie Mae Smith Genous. Dorothy was the seventh child of Eleven.
Dorothy loved growing up in the country and picking and plowing cotton. On Saturday when everyone else
was resting and getting ready for Sunday (Church), she was plowing. Dorothy attended Cook Grammar
school and graduated from Lynwood High in 1964 and was on the honor roll. In 1965, Dorothy gave birth to
a lovely baby girl Lynda V. Genous. In 1969, Dorothy married the late Vernon Price Sr. and to this union, a
son was born Vernon Price Jr. After Dorothy moved to Chicago, she was employed at Montgomery Wards for
many years and later became a Store Manager at Sally Beauty Supply. After retiring from Sally, she began
working at L.V.J. Child Care which was owned by her daughter; and she also worked in "Our Youth" And
Community Forum which was also owned by her daughter and where she served as the Hospitality
Chairperson. Dorothy also attended Kennedy King College where she took classes towards the acquisition of
an Associates Degree.
On December 2, 1979, Dorothy returned to the Lord and joined Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the late
Bishop Goldsberry and Pastor Allen. That night, she was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost in night service
with the late Missionary Johnson Lee Murray and Missionary Naomi Duncan, who right after took her in and
she began to work with them at the Cook County Jail cooking for the inmates in division 5. Mother Evangelist
Dorothy Price remained in the ministry for over 35 years.
In 2015, the lord lead her to Friendly Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of a very fine Pastor Bishop
Edwin Walker and First Lady Salena Walker. The Lord blessed her there and she continued to work in the
service of the Lord. She was promoted by her Pastor to be a Sunday school teacher, and later Sunday School
Superintendent. Mother Evangelist Dorothy Price would always visit the sick and shut in and continued
cooking for many of the auxiliaries at Faith Temple to raise funds for her church. Her favorite dish was mac
and cheese the saints loved it (at least they said they did). When her Pastor became Bishop, he put her with
the Hospitality Committee to serve when he had guest at the church. I thank God for the beautiful saints of
Faith Temple and Friendly Temple C.O.G.I.C.
Mother Evangelist Dorothy Price loved her Church and was faithful in everything she was called to do. She
was, the President of the Evangelistic Department, a faithful student of prayer, Bible Band and Y.P.W.W. She
was also the Hope of Life Chairperson for Y.P.W.W. Mother Evangelist Dorothy Price also served as a
Deaconess, a Nurse, a Missionary, and she worked with Vacation Bible School.
Mother Evangelist Dorothy Price loved to take the Mother's shopping and assisting the Saints on their
Christian walk. She said when ever the Lord blessed her with a car, she would tell the Lord thank you; and
that the car was not only for her and her family, but also for the Saints. Mother Price always got a four-door
car so it wouldn't be hard for the Saints to get in. She loved picking up the saints and taking them home. She
loved God's people and whatever her hands found to do; she would do it!
Her saying was Lord help me to keep my faith and my love for the church. Her motto was Jesus is Lord! God
blessed Mother Price with beautiful clothes and matching hats. God showed so much mercy and grace
towards her, she just wanted to give thanks to God praise him in whatever way she could. Mother was so
grateful to God for her children, grandchildren, and Church family. Mother lived a full life, always
fellowshipping with her friends and she took many trips across the county with the singles ministry until she
took her flight.
