Roosevelt Stewart was born April 17 1949 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to
the parents of Grady Lee and Velma Bostic Stewart. Roosevelt was
the sixth of eight children. Beginning in 1956 he attended the public
schools in Yazoo City at what was then Yazoo City Training School.
Roosevelt began his legendary basketball career at N.D. Taylor High
School under the Tutelage of Coach Andrew Gates. He set scoring
records (25+ point per game), assist records (10+ per game), and grew into
a great High School basketball player during his four years at Taylor High
School leading his high school team to victories in The Big Eight
Conference. Also during his high school playing career, he picked up the
nick name "Bo Sack" which he is known today to his family and friends in
and around Yazoo City, Mississippi.
Leaving high school, Roosevelt "Bo Sack: Stewart enrolled at Alcorn
State University in Lorman, Mississippi where the competition
required Bo Sack to accelerate his level of play, and that he did for Coach
Bob Hopkins. In 1969, Coach Hopkins departed Alcorn for an assistant
coaching position with the NBA Seattle Supersonics, leaving Bo Sack to
the Alcorn Basketball program, the legendary Coach Dave Whitney. While
Bo Sack's was playing at Alcorn, there was a sign out side stratum that said
"welcome to the Bo show". Bo Sack ended his basketball career at Alcorn
State University leading his team to a Southwestern Athletic Conference
(SWAC) championship and victories in The National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
Roosevelt confess in Christ at an early age.
Roosevelt departed this life Sunday October 20 2019 at 1:14 A.M. at
the home of his sister Lee Anna Hampton.
Roosevelt leaves his sisters Mary (Allen) Genette, Leeana Hampton,
Carsia (Lee) Williams of Yazoo City, MS, Franes (Hardy) Moore of
Fremont, CA, Franes McCalope of Freemont, CA; two brothers, Robert
Stewart of Yazoo City, MS and Grady Stewart, Jr. of Jackson, MS;
children, Stanley, Stephanie, Monica, and Brandon. His parent and brother,
J.D. Stewart preceded him in death.
