Rosie Lee Johnson, was born April 6, 1932 in Pace, Mississippi to the late Ruben, Sr.
and Icy McGhee.
Rosie accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Oak
Creek under the leadership of Reverend Taylor. She later moved her membership to St. Peter's
Missionary Baptist Church in Pace, MS under the leadership of Reverend Henry Knox, where
she served as an usher and a Mother of the Mother's Board until she relocated to Yazoo City,
MS. After relocating to Yazoo City, she joined her daughters at St. John Missionary Baptist
Church under the leadership of Reverend Robert Toombs until he proceeded her in death. Her
current Pastor is Reverend Marcus Hudson. Here she was a faithful member and served as a
Mother of the Mother's Board.
Rosie was united in Holy Matrimony to Ardlister Johnson and to this union, eleven
children was born. Rosie BKA Mother to many was a resident of Symond, MS for many years.
Mother was a caring neighbor and good friend of the community. Wherever she went people feel
in love with her smile and caring heart. She surely received her roses each day of her life and
enjoyed the gift of life. She was the last Mohegan of the McGhee clan.
Christ called Mother home on March 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father
and mother, Ruben and Icy McGhee, 17 siblings, and four sons, Larry, Ralph, Miron and
Richard Johnson, two stepsons Otis and George Eddie Johnson, one daughter Tina Johnson
Reed, and two stepdaughters Rosetta and Dorothy Johnson.
Rosie (Mother) leaves to cherish her precious memories, and unconditional love: her six
children Iris Dean, Carolyn Lofton, and Tammy (Jammie) McCoy of Yazoo City, MS, and Lurese
Johnson of Brown Deer, WI; two sons Curtis (Dolores) Johnson of Chicago, IL; Tony (Tonya)
Johnson of St. Paul, MN and Kenneth McKnight of Yazoo City, MS; seven stepdaughters: Shirley
Fuller, Mary Cooper, and Lula Campbell of Chicago, IL; Claretta (William) Evans, Brenda
Evans, Lebertha, Gwendolyn, and Brenda Johnson all of Pace, MS. Four stepsons: Ardlister
(Anita) Johnson, and Robert Earl Johnson of Chicago, IL; Percy and Leonard Johnson of Pace,
MS. A grand-daughter she raised Vivian Johnson-Haggard. Fourteen Grandchildren, Eighteen
Great-Grand Children, and Two Great-Great Grandchildren. Mother was a Mother to a host of
special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
